About Us
The kanji characters for the word tanabiku denote the passage of trailing clouds or mist against a mountain backdrop. They were once also used to mean “glasses.” Eyeglass manufacturing is an area of technology in which Japan excels, and the city of Sabae in Fukui Prefecture is particularly renowned for the level of its craftsmanship, attracting the keen attention of luxury fashion houses in Paris and Florence. Our dream is to become the wellspring and pinnacle of Japanese eyeglass manufacturing, to go beyond fashion and embody the very aesthetics of craftsmanship itself. Combining the meticulous handiwork of peerless artisans with designs that radiate the essence of Japan, our TANABIKU glasses bring Japanese beauty to the world, carrying it into the future. • Made in Japan
TANABIKU glasses are made in the city of Sabae in Fukui Prefecture, in a factory where eyewear manufacturing technologies have been honed over many generations to a level of sophistication lauded by many as unparalleled worldwide. Made from bio-acetate (a biodegradable plastic) order-made to 10 mm thickness, the frames with their unique colors and texture are fashioned into glasses of the highest quality by master craftsmen who pay uncompromising attention to every tiny detail.
  • User First Design
The moment you pick up a pair of TANABIKU glasses, you’ll be struck by their engaging solidity and high-quality luster. While their timeless and refined design will almost certainly enhance the appearance of the wearer, perhaps even more striking is how comfortable they feel, and their sheer durability. Each pair is meticulously crafted to deliver quality with the potential to last for a century, and with just simple maintenance, they will retain their beauty even after many years of use.
  • Sustainability
TANABIKU glasses are also designed with sustainability in mind to ensure the preservation of Japan’s beauty for future generations. The frames are made from biodegradable plastic that will eventually be broken down by microorganisms and returned to the soil. And in line with the TANABIKU aesthetic of caring for the environment down to the smallest detail, the glasses also come with a case of white leather manufactured using a low impact, chemical-free process. The packaging is made of a natural material, paulownia wood, and the enclosed warranty card is made of recyclable Echizen washi paper.
